Tite Kubo was born in Hiroshima prefecture, Japan, on the 26th June 1977. His actual name is Noriaki Kubo, and Tite Kubo is his pen name. During his third year in high school, he wrote his very first manga, Zombie Powder. It was submitted to a magazine’s manga contest, and although he did not win, his talent was noticed by one of the magazine’s editors. Subsequently, they started working together on joint projects. He published his first manga short, Ultra Unholy Hearted Machine, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Special in 1996. In 1999, his first serial, Zombie Powder, began in Weekly Shonen Jump but was stopped at the fourth volume due to the lack of popularity.
His next creation, Bleach, was initially rejected by Weekly Shonen Jump for publication due to resemblance with Yu Yu Hakush, another popular manga by Yoshihiro Togashi. Back then, Bleach was only viewed by a controlled group of readers, and the chance of an official publication was low.
At that point of time, the rejection of his manga has very much discouraged Kubo. However, the encouragement by Akira Toriyama, the creator of the mega hit Dragonball series, has greatly inspired him to persevere. In 2001, Bleach was published in Weekly Shonen Jump, reaching over 300 chapters, with an anime adaptation started running in Japan in 2004. Bleach manga was named a winner of the Shogakukan Manga Award for its category in 2005. In 2006, the very first Bleach movie was released in Japan, following a second movie in the last quarter of 2007. Bleach is now a successful mega hit in both the manga and anime industry.
