Ichigo Kurosaki is a 15-year-old orange haired high school junior forced to become a substitute Shinigami after attaining the Shinigami powers of Rukia Kuchiki, the Shinigami tasked to guard Karakura Town. On a faithful night, he became a substitute Shinigami after unwittingly absorbing the powers of Rukia Kuchiki, a female Shinigami assigned to patrol Karakura Town. The encounter with Rukia Kuchiki has brought his entire life into experiencing a different world and adventure. Upon absorbing the Shinigami powers from Rukia, Ichigo learns about the true powers he possessed and later commits himself in protecting people from evil spirits called Hollows, and eventually protecting those close to him.

Rukia Kuchiki is the Shinigami who transferred her powers to Ichigo which triggers the very start of this entire series. She is a Shinigami of 13th Division under captain Ukitake Jyuushiro. A cool tempered and knowledgeable female warrior. The series started on a faithful night in Karakura Town when Ichigo’s house was assaulted by a Hollow. Rukia was severely injured whilst protecting Ichigo and offered to transfer her Shinigami powers to him. Since then, Rukia takes shelter in Ichigo’s house for recuperation and acts as a guide to Ichigo.

Orihime Inoue is one of Ichigo’s classmates who has strong affiliations on him since the very start of the series. She was saved by Ichigo during an attack by a Hollow which turns out to be her brother who has passed away long ago. Orihime’s powers initially manifested during her contact with Ichigo and were further trained by Yoruichi in preparation to save Rukia from Soul Society.

Uryu Ishida is inherited with the powers of Quincy. He has been trained since young by his grandfather, Soken Ishida. Uryu bears great hatred towards the Shinigami as their late arrival during an Hollow attack had caused the death of his grandfather. At the beginning of the series, Uryu has issued a challenged towards Ichigo to see who is more superior in eliminating Hollows, however, this lures an uninvited menos grande, which eventually forces both Ichigo and Uryu to fight alongside one another.

Sado Yasutora, Chad is Ichigo’s best friend who makes a pact with the lad that they would fight for one another in any circumstances. Chad possess tremendous human strength and bears great determination in becoming stronger to travel the journey towards Soul Society. The reason Chad trained hard was to assist Ichigo to achieve his goals in saving Rukia from Soul Society. A true friend. Isshin Kurosaki is the father of Ichigo Kurosaki, who is the neighborhood doctor. He is a humorous father who cares a lot for Ichigo. On the outside, he doesn’t seem to know what his son is doing or experiencing. However, the fact is he is aware of every single stuff about the Shinigami event which is taking place to Ichigo. Isshin Kurosaki is a great Shinigami himself with powers as superior as a captain’s level. The reason he chosen to lead a normal life in karakura Town is because of his wife, Masaki Kurosaki.

Ryuken Ishida is the father of Uryu Ishida, as well as the Director of Karakura Hospital. He is work-oriented man with a cold character. Ryuken feels that being a Quincy is meaningless as compared to having a proper living and reminded Uryu never to follow his grandfather’s footsteps. Ryuken displayed some powerful skills and techniques during his first combat appearance against the Arrancar. He also offers to help Uryu in restoring his lost Quincy powers on the condition that he will never be involve with the Shinigami again.

Aizen Sosuke is the former Captain of the 5th Division and currently the ultimate antagonist of the series. In the beginning, Aizen’s appearance portrays him as a soft-spoken intellectual person who appears to be kind towards his subordinates; however, he is a ruthless mastermind of all evil in truth. He has declared that he is not bound by any morals and will resort to manipulating or killing anyone in order to achieve his goals. Aizen’s main objective is to attain the royal key and overthrow the king of Soul Society.

Byakuya Kuchiki is the captain of the 6th Division as well as the 28th head of the noble Kuchiki clan. Byakuya is an extremely regimental person, who believes strongly in law and order. He is one of the strongest captain in Soul Society and had a great sense of arrogance due to his nobility and degree of power. He adopted Rukia as his younger sister to fulfill a last request by his wife who turns out to be Rukia’s older sister, Hisana. Hitsugaya Toshiro is the Captain of the 10th Division and known as the youngest Captain in Soul Society. His distinct characteristic is his white hair and emerald eyes, which evokes his powers of controlling ice. Despite his young age, Hitsugaya portrays a mature and serious image. Hitsugaya’s hidden spiritual powers were discovered by Rangiku Matsumoto. He has been convinced by Rangiku to become a Shinigami in order to control his powers before he cause danger to anyone. After entering the Shinigami academy, Hitsugaya’s natural talent has made him the Captain of the 10th Division.

Kenpachi Zaraki is the captain of the 11th Division. A strong, fierce, ruthless and fearless warrior. Kenpachi fights for his own pleasure, and his only enjoyment is combating with strong opponents. His spirit power is so enormously strong that he requires a special eye patch to absorb his spirit force in order to control it. Although he has yet to discover his sword’s name, his powers are superior enough to even defeat Captain Sajin and Tousen during the Soul Society Arc.

Shunsui Kyoraku is the Captain of the 8th Division as well as the second son of the high-ranking noble Kyoraku family. He is a laid back and flamboyant man who enjoys drinking sake and napping during off time. He is always seen sweet taking his lieutenant, Nanao Ise, whom he calls Nanao-chan. Captain Shunsui is considered one of the oldest captains in the Gotei 13, along with Captain Ukitake and Captain Retsu. Being recorgnised by General Yamamoto, Captain Shunsui is known to be one of the strongest captain in Soul Society..

Retsu Unohana is the captain of the 4th Division which specializes in medications. She is seen to be a soft-spoken and caring woman. She always portrays an extremely calm appearance during all sorts of situations. She has been known to be one of the most senior captains in Soul Society as she has been greeted by both Captain Kyouraku and Ukitake as “Senpai”.

Jushiro Ukitake is the captain of the 13th Division. He has a sickly looking appearance with long white hair. Despite his illness, Captain Jushiro is known to be a powerful fighter. He is one of the pioneers of Yamamoto’s academy and was personally trained by Yamamoto himself. Captain Jushiro is a highly respected character for his loyalty, honesty and personal sense of justice.

Soifon is the captain of the 2nd Division and the head of the Special Forces in Soul Society. She is loyal, believes in following orders and takes a strong moral stand. Long ago, Soifon was taken in by Yoruichi as a guard and Yoruichi became her mentor as well as a close friend. Soifon’s initial techniques were first imparted by Yoruichi. After Yoruichi left Soul Society, Soifon succeeded her as head of the Special Forces, and soon became the captain of the 2nd Division.

Sajin Komamura is the captain of the 7th Division. He wears a huge helmet to hide his true appearance. However, after his battle with Captain Kenpachi Zaraki who destroyed his helmet, Captain Sajin has found himself the confidence to live without hiding his identity. Having a close friendship with Captain Tosen Kaname, Sajin was utterly disappointed when the latter who chooses the path of the dark side.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi is the Captain of the 12th Division which specializes in research and biological technologies. He portrays an image of a mad scientist with a sadistic and cruel personality. Before Mayuri became a Captain, he was a prisoner under Urahara’s watch in a high-security facility known as the “Maggots’ Nest”. Mayuri was offered by Urahara, Captain of the 12th Division at that point of time, to be run a research institute as the vice president. Eventually, Mayuri succeeded Urahara in establishing the Research Institute and became the captain of the 12th Division.

Yamamoto Shigekuni is the leader of the 1st Division and the Gotei 13. The scars on his torso and head portrays that he has experienced numerous battles in his past. General Yamamoto was the founder for the Soul Reaper academy since 2000 years prior to the main Bleach storyline. He is a highly respected leader who believes in law and order.

Gin Ichimaru is the former captain of the 3rd Division in Soul Society, however, he has chosen to betray Soul Society to join Aizen in Hueco Mundo. Gin has a distinguishing smile on his face which tend to portray a opposite effect to whoever he meets. It is known that Gin has an unusual relationship with Matsumoto Rangiku as they have met many years before they became Shinigami. Gin is seen with a vast degree of speed during his battle with Captain Toshiro. His Zanpakuto is known as the Divine Spear (Shinso) which has the ability to stretch itself, piercing towards his opponent from a great distance.

Tosen Kaname is the former Captain of the 9th Division in Soul Society, however, he has left Soul Society as a betrayer for Hueco Mundo. Tosen’s choice of path follows his philosophy of taking the path with the least bloodshed. Tosen’s philosophy is inspired from a special woman who believes in maintaining a peaceful world. The woman was killed by her husband for reprimanding him for killing a comrade over a trivial argument. Upon the women’s death, Tosen took over her Zanpakuto and vowed that he would fight for justice without unnecessary bloodshed. However, the path he has chosen seems otherwise.

Renji Abara is the lieutenant of the 6th Division under captain Byakuya Kuchiki. Renji has strong determinations and bears great ambitions in surpassing Byakuya, however, his actions are rather impulsively at times. He was first introduced when during a task along with Byakuya to bring Rukia back to Soul Society. He is one of the few Shinigami which mastered Bankai.

Matsumoto Rangiku is the lieutenant of the 10th Division under Captain ToshiroHitsugaya. Her most distinctive features are her very large breasts, which are often made topics of jokes. Matsumoto is often seen lazing around, neglecting her paperworks and drinking sake. Despite her negative workability, Matsumoto has been extremely loyal to Captain Toshiro. Many years back when Matsumoto was a child, she has been rescued by Gin Ichimaru and it was then the two became close friends.

Urahara Kisuke is the proud owner of the Uraha shop in karakura Town. A mysterious character who has vast knowledges on Soul Society and spiritual facts. Urahara was the one who trained Ichigo to regain his Shinigami powers after the defeat by Byakuya Kuchiki. He has the ability to create a portal which aided Ichigo and his group of friends to travel towards Soul Society. Urahara is also known to be the former captain of the 12th Division back in Soul Society a long time ago.

Yoruichi Shihouin made her first appearance in a form of a talking black cat and was later reviewed as a human lady. She was the former Captain of the 2nd Division and head of the Special Forces. An intelligent and witty character, with vast knowledges of Soul Society and its workings. Yoruichi has trained Orihime and Chad in utilizing their powers and assisted Ichigo in attaining greater powers as well. During her days in Soul Society, she has created impressive techniques such as flash steps.

Shinji Hirako seems to be the leader among the ranks of Vizards. He is also the former captain of the 5th Division in Soul Society. Long ago, Aizen Sosuke used to be work under Shinji as his lieutenant in the 5th Division. He was introduced seeing to recruit Ichigo into their ranks of Vizards. Shinji’s hollow mask resembles a pharaoh and he was seen to be an excel Cero user during his combat with Grimmjow Jeagerjaques.

Kensei Muguruma is the former captain of the 9th Division. His current appearance as a Vizard portrays him as a lively teenager with short, light-gray hair and several piercings. Kensei is a serious character at work. His Zanpakuto is named Tachikaze and is released with the command “blow it away” (futtobas).

Hachigen Ushoda is known as the physically largest member among the ranks of Vizards. He is an expert in binding spells. Hachigen commented that his powers are very alike those of Orihime Inoue’s, which are uniquely special as compared to any other spiritual powers. Hachigen is seen to be a kind and gentle giant who prefers peace.

Love Aigawa is one of the 8 Vizards. He is also the former captain of the 7th Division in Soul Society. His distinct features are his pair of dark sporting sunglasses and a spiked afro. He seem to be a slack person, reading manga most of the time. Love’s Zanpakuto hilt is in the shape of a heart.

Rose is the former Captain of the 3rd Division and is known to be the wisest among the ranks of Vizards. He is a music lover wo enjoys playing with his guitar. A very close friend of fellow Vizard Love. His distinct feature is his long, wavy, blond hair. His Zanpakuto hilt has the shape of a diamond.

Mashiro Kuna is the former lieutenant of the 9th Division under Kensei Muguruma, currently a member in the ranks of the Vizards. She is always making a fuss for the smallest of things. Her green hair, goggles and white bodysuit are her distinct features. The impressive thing about Mashiro is that she has the capability to maintain her hollow mask for fifteen hours during her first attempt.

Lisa Yadomaru is the former lieutenant of the 8th Division under Captain Shunsui Kyoraku. She wears a pair of glasses with long, braided, dark hair and dresses in a Sailor Fuku outfit. She is a rather short-tempered person who gets irritated easily.

Stark is the number one in the ranks of Espada. He appears to be very lazy. He is often seen sleeping and does not appear overly concerned by any news. When he is needs to be serious, his personality changes completely; he comes off as reluctant but nonetheless willing to do what needs to be done to attempts to accomplish the task. Stark’s hollow mask consists of a bottom jaw that is positioned like a necklace. He is one of the fastest Espada in Hueco Mundo.

Barragan Luisenbarn is known as the number 2 Espada. The remnant of his mask takes the form of a five-pointed crown. His outlook shows large visible scars on the left side of his chin and across his right eye, and wears a large rope-like sash with a sun-crested buckler attached to it. He appears to hold a high control of power over the other Espada and possesses great self-confidence in himself.

Halibel is the current third Espada as well as the sole current female Espada. She is very calm and rarely speaks. The remains of Halibel’s hollow mask are partially covered by her collar, but it is clear that she at least has pieces of mask on both sides of her cheeks. She carries her Zanpakuto horizontally behind her shoulders. Her sword is particularly broad and short.

Neliel Tu Oderschvank is originally known as the former third Espada. When first introduced, she is called Nel Tu which is seen as a good-natured, child-like arrancar. The remains of her hollow mask make up a cartoonish skull on the top of her head. Nel’s true form is that of a fully-grown woman, her mask appears with a pair of curved horns. A large “3″ tattooed on her back signifies that she was previously in the ranks of Espada. The cause of her child-form is due to an assault by Nnoitra Jiruga in the past, turning her into a child-form, giving her amnesia, and allowing him to remove her from the ranks of Espada. Nel possesses a powerful ability to swallow cero attacks and fire them back. In her adult form, she can also add her own cero to this blast, doubling its power. Nel’s Zanpakuto, which manifests when she transforms, is named Gamuza. Its release command is “declare”. Her released form is that of a ibex-like centaur with longer curved horns, a thick tail, and armor over her shoulders and hands. Her sword transforms into a double-ended lance, giving her the appearance of a medieval knight. One of her powerful attack is called Lanzador Verde. It moves her lance at an extreme high speed with rotating effects, drilling through anything it hits.

Ulquiorra Schiffer is the number four Espada, signified by the “4″ tattooed to his chest. He has a largely stoic appearance, hardly ever changing his facial expression, and does not allow the actions of others to obstruct the tasks set to him by Sōsuke Aizen. The remains of Ulquiorra’s hollow mask forms a broken helmet with a curved horn and settles on the left half of his head. He has the ability to flashback events he has witness to others by removing and crushing his left eye, which then turns into dust and flows around those Ulquiorra is relaying information to. Ulquiorra is a strong believer in absolute materialism and has claimed that what his eye cannot see does not exist.

Nnoitra Jiruga is the fifth Espada, signified by the “5″ on his tongue. He wears a large eye-patch that covers most of the left side of his face The remains of his hollow mask consists of a small set of jawbones and teeth. He claims to possess the toughest skin of any Espada as he can deflect powerful attacks without any sign of injury. One of his ability enables him to track and measure sources of spiritual power by touching his fingertip to the ground. His Zanpakuto, Santa Teresa, takes the form of a huge ax-like weapon bearing two crescent moon blades fused together at their backs. When released with the command “pray”, Nnoitra gains two additional sets of arms, and each of his hands gains an identical scythe-like weapon.[26] He grows a pair of horns on his head, one longer on one side than the other, mimicking the crescent shape of his sealed Zanpakuto. Adding to his abilities, Nnoitra is able to self-regenerate almost instantly in his released state.

Grimmjow Jaegerjaques is the number six Espada, signified by the “6″ tattooed to his back. Grimmjow has a very bold character. Grimmjow is always hungry for battles, challenging the strongest opponent for thrills. Grimmjow dislikes being looked down on, becoming infuriated beyond consolation when he feels that someone does so. The remains of his hollow mask consist of the right jawbone. When his Zanpakuto, Pantera is released with the command “grind”, he takes up an appearance alike a panther. He takes on more animal-like features such as jagged teeth, feline ears, clawed hands, and a tail that can be used as a powerful whip. In that state, his speed increases drastically, giving him animal-like agility and movements. His roar creates shockwaves in the air, and he is able to unleash a large number of “darts” from his elbows and create energy claws called Desgarron from his fingertips.

Zommari Leroux is the seventh Espada. He is a quiet, reverent figure that shows great respects to Sosuke Aizen. The remains of his hollow mask take the form of a necklace made out of teeth and a ridge of spikes running down the center of his forehead. Zommari has the self-proclaimed fastest sonído among the Espada, referred to as Gemelos Sonído. He can leave up to five afterimages in his stead after unleashing it. His Zanpakuto, Brujería is released with the command “abate”. When released, he gains a total of fifty eyes, each of which can be used to gain complete control of whatever or whoever they look upon. This technique is called Amor . His legs are also transformed into a pumpkin-like structure that he can hide within as a defensive measure.

Szayel Aporro Grantz is the eighth Espada. He portrays the image of a scientist among the Espada. He thinks highly of himself and follows his plans down to the finest detail. With a sadistic character, he views others as little more than research material. Szayel has a range of ways to analyze an opponent’s abilities, such as studying the damage done to their former opponents. Upon doing so, Szayel can nullify the effects of their abilities, making him virtually immune to their attacks. The remains of his hollow mask take the form of rectangular-framed glasses. Szayel’s Zanpakuto, Fornicaras, is released with the command “sip”. In his released state, Szayel grows two pairs of thin wings, his lower body transforms into a flock of long tentacles, and a blood-like liquid drips from all over his body. If one of these droplets comes into contact with an opponent a doppelganger of them is created that Szayel can control to use their abilities against them. One of the deadly ability Szayel possess is to create voodoo dolls by wrapping an opponent in his wings. Any damage done to the dolls’ internal organs effects his opponents directly, debilitating them from the inside. Should he be eaten, Szayel’s body will fuse with its opponent’s nervous system, allowing him to gain complete control of their body. Adding to his abilities, he possesses a skill known as Gabriel that allows him to be reborn if he is injured beyond repair by impregnating an enemy.

Aaroniero Arruruerie is the ninth Espada, signified by the “9″ tattooed to his two faces. He is the last of the first-generation Espada. He has an unusual glass capsule filled with red liquid and two floating masks in place of a head, which he usually covers with a tall white mask. The two masks tend to talk in tandem when revealed, giving the effect of two people speaking in turn. Aaroniero possesses the ability to absorb other hollows in their entirety, not only giving him their power but their unique abilities and memories as well. Upon absorbing a hollow, Aaroniero can manifest any aspect of them at will, including their physical form. Aaroniero’s weakness is sunlight, which nullifies his powers on contact and reveals his true form. Aaroniero’s Zanpakutōo, Glotonería, is released with the command “devour”. In his released state the lower half of his body turns into a huge, purple, octopus-like mass with dozens of tentacles and cartoonish mouth-like mask pieces. When Glotoneria is released, Aaroniero can access the full range of his abilities at will.

Yammy is the tenth Espada, signified by the “10″ tattooed to his left shoulder. The remains of his hollow mask is the jawbone, which rests on his chin. He is the largest, but not the brightest among the ranks of the Espada. Yammy often relies on Ulquiorra Schiffer to define things and has to follow Ulquiorra’s instruction during battles. Yammy primarily ability is his brute strength and cero blasts. He takes little interest in using his sword until he is overpowered. Yammy possess a special ability in absorbing the souls from living humans as a whole using Gonzui. It affects a broad area, however, any individual with even slight spiritual power is able to resist it to some degree.
